What Gets Inspected?
Inspection Sticker
If your inspection sticker does not properly stick onto the windshield, you are allowed to use clear tape or adhesive. The inspection facility must be able to remove it the following year.
Seat Belts
Seat belts are inspected for adequate function and anchorage. There must be one seat belt for every seat in your vehicle (model years 1967 and later).
Brakes
At least one tire must be removed to inspect your brakes. All components of your braking system will be inspected, along with checks for cracks and leaks.
Lights
Your lighting system must be working properly. Lights are inspected for proper type, missing lens, adequate mounting, and function.
Tires
Tires must have a 2/32 inch groove space on the area of most wear. They are also inspected for knots, bulges, and anything that could restrict use.
Steering, Chassis, & Suspension
The entire front end assembly is inspected, including steering wheel play, all steering linkages, power steering, shock absorbers, and springs. Chassis and wheel fasteners are checked for breaks, cracks, and rust.
Emissions Inspection
Your vehicle may be exempt if it is less than two model years old, 26 model years or older, registered with historic plates, or electric powered. An OBD-II test is conducted on vehicles 1996 or newer under 8,500 lbs.
